Getting Started

What is Capture Watch?

Capture Watch is the fastest voice recorder for Apple Watch. Tap once to record, tap again to stop. Your recordings sync to iPhone automatically. No setup, no menus, no friction.

How much does it cost?

$6.99 one-time purchase. No subscription, no hidden fees. Buy once, use forever.

What devices do I need?

  • Apple Watch Series 4 or later (watchOS 9.0+)
  • iPhone 8 or later (iOS 16.0+)
  • Bluetooth pairing between Watch and iPhone

Do I need an iPhone to use Capture Watch?

No! You can record directly on your Apple Watch without your iPhone nearby. Recordings will sync to iPhone automatically when they're paired again.

Recording

How do I start recording?

  1. Open Capture Watch on your Apple Watch
  2. Tap the red circle button
  3. Start speaking
Pro tip: Add Capture to your Watch face as a complication for instant access.

How do I stop recording?

Tap the red square button. Your recording saves automatically.

How long can I record?

Unlimited. Record 10 seconds or 10 hours. The only limit is your Watch storage.

What if I get a notification while recording?

Recording continues. Capture Watch uses background audio sessions so you can check notifications, reply to messages, or even use other apps while recording.

What audio formats are supported?

Choose between:

  • M4A (AAC) — Great quality, small files (~1MB per minute)
  • WAV (lossless) — Maximum quality, larger files (~10MB per minute)

Change format in Settings on iPhone.

Playback & Sharing

How do I play back a recording?

On Apple Watch:

  1. Swipe up to see your recordings list
  2. Tap a recording
  3. Tap play

On iPhone:

  1. Open Capture Watch app
  2. Tap a recording from the list
  3. Tap play

How do I share a recording?

From iPhone:

  1. Tap a recording
  2. Tap the share button
  3. Choose AirDrop, Messages, Mail, Files, etc.

Do recordings sync between Watch and iPhone?

Yes, automatically. When your Watch and iPhone are paired and in Bluetooth range, recordings sync via iCloud.

What if my recordings aren't syncing?

Quick fixes:

  1. Check that Bluetooth is enabled on both devices
  2. Make sure iCloud Drive is enabled (Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → iCloud Drive)
  3. Force-quit both apps and reopen
  4. Restart both devices
  5. Check that you're signed into the same iCloud account on both

Privacy & Storage

Where are my recordings stored?

  • Apple Watch: Local storage on your Watch
  • iPhone: Local storage, synced via iCloud (if enabled)
  • Not on our servers — we never see your recordings

Does Capture Watch collect my data?

No. We don't collect, transmit, or store any of your data. No analytics, no tracking, no cloud uploads. Your recordings stay on your devices.

How much storage do recordings use?

Depends on format:

  • M4A: ~1 MB per minute
  • WAV: ~10 MB per minute

Example: A 10-minute recording in M4A = ~10 MB. In WAV = ~100 MB.

Watch Face & Complications

How do I add Capture to my Watch face?

  1. Long-press your Watch face
  2. Tap "Edit"
  3. Swipe to the complications screen
  4. Tap a complication slot
  5. Scroll to find "Capture Watch"
  6. Select it and tap "Done"

Which complications are supported?

All standard complication types:

  • Circular Small
  • Circular Large
  • Rectangular
  • Graphic Corner
  • Graphic Circular
  • And more

Troubleshooting

Recording button doesn't work

Possible fixes:

  1. Grant microphone permission:
    • iPhone: Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone → Enable for Capture Watch
    • Watch: Settings → Privacy → Microphone → Enable for Capture Watch
  2. Restart your Apple Watch
  3. Update watchOS (Settings → General → Software Update)

No sound when playing back

Check:

  1. Volume is turned up on Watch/iPhone
  2. Silent mode is off (check the orange dot on Apple Watch)
  3. Recording isn't corrupted (try recording a new short test)

App crashes when recording

  • What you were doing when it crashed
  • How long the recording was
  • Which device (Watch Series X, iPhone X)
  • watchOS/iOS version

We'll fix it ASAP.

Is this a subscription?

No. Capture Watch is a one-time purchase. Pay once, use forever.

Can I use it on multiple devices?

Yes! Purchase once on your Apple ID, install on all your Apple Watches and iPhones.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple. If you're unhappy with Capture Watch:

  1. Open the App Store on iPhone
  2. Tap your profile icon (top right)
  3. Tap "Purchased"
  4. Find Capture Watch → tap "Report a Problem"
  5. Follow Apple's refund request process
